The Washington Middle School seventh grade Lady Lions have started the 2016-17 season with three consecutive wins.
On opening night, Dec. 5, the Lady Lions played host to the East Clinton Lady Astros, winning 60-12.
Jeleeya Smith led all scorers with 28 points followed by Aaralyn Estep with 17.
Four others players found the net; Haven McGraw (7), Chloe Lovett (4), Mia Moats and Emily Becker chipped in two points each.
The team then hit the road travelling to Hillsboro for their second game of the year on Dec. 8.
The Lady Lions found themselves trailing 20-8 at the half.
A solid second half performance allowed the Lady Lions to tie the game at 32 to force overtime.
Both teams matched each other point for point with five each to send the game to a second overtime. The Lady Lions were able to outscore the Lady Indians 9-3 and take the hard-fought victory 46-40.
Aaralyn Estep scored 21 for the Lady Lions as Haven McGraw added 12, Savannah Osborne with 7, Emily Becker chipped in 4, and Mia Moats rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
On the road again, they travelled to Chillicothe on Monday evening, Dec. 12 and the shooting was as cold as the night air. The Lady Lions managed to hold a 7-3 advantage at the half and outscored the Lady Cavs 18-0 in the second half to stay perfect on the season and get the victory with a 25-3 score.
Haven McGraw led with 10 points, followed by Jeleeya Smith with 8 points. Aaralyn Estep tallied 5 points and Emily Becker added 2.
The Lady Lions junior high squad travels to Clinton-Massie this Thursday evening. The seventh grade game is at 5 p.m., followed by the eighth grade contest.
