The Fayette County Board of Elections held a meeting Tuesday to certify the official results of the 2016 general election and prepare for an audit.
“People think we’re done on election night—we’re not,” said Beth Ann Snyder, Fayette County Board of Elections director.
In addition to the unofficial voter numbers on election day, 293 provisional votes and 31 absentee ballot votes were added to the count.
There were 37 provisional ballots cast that were not able to be counted in the election. The main issue was that those people had never registered to vote in the state, said Snyder.
According to the official results from the Fayette County Board of Elections, there were 11,325 of 16, 249 registered voters in the county who participated in the 2016 general election. That put the county’s voter turnout for the election at 69.7 percent.
For the presidential candidates, 7,995 people in Fayette County voted for Donald Trump compared to 2,739 votes cast for Hillary Clinton.
There were 259 votes cast for Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson and for Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate, 57.
In the U.S. Senator race, 8,097 Fayette County voters cast a vote for Republican incumbent Sen. Rob Portman compared to 2,442 votes cast for the Democratic Senate candidate, Ted Strickland. The Green Party Senate candidate, Joseph DeMare, received 116 votes. There were 202 votes cast for Tom Connors, the independent Senate candidate, and 146 votes cast for Scott Rupert, an independent candidate.
Mike Turner, Republican incumbent for the House of Representatives for the 10th District, received 6,271 votes compared to the Democratic candidate, Robert Klepinger, who received 2,019 votes.
Steve Stivers, Republican incumbent for the House of Representatives for the 15th District, won with 1,812 votes compared to the Democratic challenger, Scott Wharton, who received 324 votes.
Gary K. Scherer, Republican incumbent for the House of Representatives for the 92nd District ran unopposed and there were 8,171 votes cast for Scherer.

The vote totals were certified by the Fayette County Board of Elections Tuesday. Local issue results were sent to county fiscal officers. For candidates, certificates were signed by the Fayette County Board of Elections and will be sent to the Office of the Ohio Secretary of State to be signed by Gov. John Kasich.
After more than 10 years of service to the Fayette County Board of Elections, deputy director Jamie Teeters will be retiring at the end of the year.
