After a slow start, the Blue Lion offense found its stride and scored seven second-half goals to defeat visiting Westfall Wednesday evening, Oct. 12 at the Washington High School Sports Complex.
Washington scored the first two goals of the match on a Jordan Behm goal assisted by Jack Luebbe and a goal from Eli Ruth set up by Behm. Westfall gained some confidence before the half and made the halftime score 2-1 with a goal of their own.
“I think Westfall’s goal was good for us, emotionally,” said Washington coach Aaron Teter. “We’ve had this funk for a few games; with the feeling we’ve underperformed. The boys were ready to break out and score some goals. I just asked them to play as fast as they could, and to have fun with it.”
Washington’s offense took that advice and ran with it rattling off seven goals before the final whistle.
Blue Lions scoring points in the game were: Blaise Tayese, 3 goals; Eli Ruth, 2 goals; Max Schroeder, 1 goal and 2 assists; Nate Horton, 4 assists; Kenny Upthegrove, 1 goal; Grant Kuhlwein, 1 goal, and Jack Luebbe, 1 assist.
Brian Wilson had 4 saves in goal.
Washington’s regular season ends with an even 8-8 record and 6-6 in the SCOL. They will play for a Sectional championship Thursday at 5 p.m. at Zane Trace High School.
Blue Lion j-v soccer beats Miami Trace
On Saturday, Oct. 8, the Washington Blue Lion j-v boys soccer team played at Miami Trace against the Panthers.
Washington won the match, 2-1.
Mason Morgan scored the first goal for Washington and Alex Trombold scored the second goal with an assist to Grant Kuhlwein.
August Langley scored the goal for Miami Trace.
