A 21-year-old Washington C.H. man who admitted to unlawful sexual conduct with a minor was sentenced to prison Monday.
Ryan S. Byrd, of 412 Clyburn Ave., was sentenced to seven months in prison in an agreed sentence.
Byrd was indicted Aug. 5 and admitted to having sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old minor between July 18, 2015 and July 18, 2016.
At the time of the crime, Byrd was 20-years-old and the minor was 15-years-old, according to Jess Weade, Fayette County Prosecutor.
Byrd was also ordered to a mandatory five-year period of post-release control by the Adult Parole Authority and is required to register as a Tier II sex offender. He was court ordered to submit to tests by the Director of Health to determine if he has AIDS or a venereal disease.
When asked about the increase in the number of convictions in recent weeks for sex offense-related crimes against minors, Weade said that he doesn’t believe it’s a crime that has recently increased.
“My gut tells me it’s not that it’s happening more—parents might be finding out more,” said Weade.
