CHILLICOTHE — The Miami Trace Panthers were looking to bounce back from a 24-14 loss last week at home against Clinton-Massie when they traveled to Chillicothe to take on the Cavaliers in Week Two of the SCOL schedule Friday night.
It was a good start to the game for the Panthers as they scored first midway through the first quarter.
The game was tied, 21-21 at the half.
Unfortunately for Miami Trace, it was all Chillicothe in the second half as the Cavaliers posted a 56-21 victory.
Both teams came into the game with a record of 3-1.
The Cavaliers are now 2-0 in the SCOL.
The Panthers fall to 0-2 in the league.
After the teams exchanged punts to open the game, the Panthers scored on their second possession.
A 46-yard run by Drake Litteral set up a one-yard touchdown run by Tiante Connell.
Blake Pittser’s kick made it 7-0 Miami Trace at the 6:59 mark of the first quarter.
Chillicothe started their second possession at their own 24-yard line.
This drive was a scoring one for the Cavs as quarterback Branden Maughmer hooked up with Connor Mathis for an 18-yard pass for the tying score.
The extra-point made it 7-7 with 3:23 to play in the first quarter.
Miami Trace began the next possession at their own 18-yard line.
The Panthers soon fumbled the ball, recovered by Chillicothe at the Miami Trace 16-yard line.
Moments later, Maughmer passed to Zach Coats for a touchdown. With the extra point, it was 14-7 Cavs with 2:07 to play in the initial quarter.
The Panthers responded very quickly.
On the ensuing kickoff, Brady Wallace returned the ball 92 yards for a touchdown. Pittser’s kick made it 14-14 with 1:54 to play in the quarter.
Chillicothe converted a 43-yard touchdown pass from Maughmer to Khaleel Danzy. That made it 21-14, Cavaliers.
The Panthers tied the game with a 67-yard pass from Skyler McDonald to Tyrae Pettiford.
Pittser’s kick made it 21-21 with 1:30 to play in the second quarter.
Miami Trace will have its Homecoming for 2016 next week against the McClain Tigers.
McClain lost to Clinton-Massie last night, 56-0.
