Commissioners approve county construction projects

The Fayette County Commissioners approved several construction projects during a recent meeting, including a bridge replacement and resurfacing project.

The first of the approved motions was to receive bids on an Old Springfield Road bridge replacement. It was moved by commissioner Jack DeWeese and seconded by commissioner Dan Dean that the county engineer, Steve Luebbe, be authorized to advertise to receive bids on Monday, June 27 at 11 a.m. in the commissioners’ office on the fourth floor of the county building, located at 133 S. Main St. in Washington Court House. The engineer’s estimate for the project is $230,577.

The second motion approved was a contract with Cox Paving and the Village of Jeffersonville for the Fent Street resurfacing project. The cost of the project is $36,894.01 and will be paid with the 2015 Community Development Block Grant Program funds. The project is expected to be finished by the end of November this year.

A third motion authorized a resolution to file for the fiscal year 2017 application with the Ohio Department of Transportation for funding from the Ohio Airport Grant Program. The funds will be used to relocate and reconstruct an existing parallel taxiway at the Fayette County Airport. The amount of state funds being requested is $1,044,073.75 with a local match of $160,853.75. The total cost for the project is $1,204,927.50.

Finally, the commissioners moved to support a Fayette County Fish and Game construction project. The organization is looking to construct a 24-foot-by-24-foot shelter house, complete with a storage room, concrete patio and new sign. Fish and Game representatives have secured a donation from Stark Truss Inc. to fund the project, with a completion date of Aug. 31.

Two other resolutions were authorized by the commissioners during the meeting. The first was a motion to make an application with First State Bank for a “Visa CommUnity Credit Card,” with a credit limit of $5,000 in the name of the Fayette County Commissioners. The card will be used by Debra Buccilla, superintendent of the Fayette County Board of Developmental Disabilities, to be used for work-related expenses.

The other resolution authorized commissioner Tony Anderson to enter into a grant agreement and funding application update between the State of Ohio Department of Youth Services (DYS) and the Fayette County Board of Commissioners on behalf of the Fayette County Juvenile Court. The DYS will provide the tentative base allocation in the amount of $55,276 and the tentative variable allocation, in the amount of $87,174.68, for fiscal year 2017. The funds will be used for the provision of direct services to youth and for administrative or indirect costs associated with the direct services provided.
