The Miami Trace Panthers baseball team hosted the Astros of East Clinton for an SCOL game Monday, April 18.
The Panthers won this game, 10-0 in six innings.
Darby Tyree got the win on the mound for Miami Trace.
He went six innings, with seven strikeouts, one walk and three hits allowed.
“Darby pitched a heck of a ballgame,” Miami Trace head coach Rob Smith said. “He did what we asked. He only walked one batter, which, walks have hurt us in key situations this year.
“Our kids kind of came out flat until we scored in the fourth inning,” Smith said. “It was a solid ballgame by our kids. We only had one error. That was a big plus for us.”
The Panthers scored all the runs they would need in the fourth inning, plating five runs.
Mitchell Creamer led off the inning being hit by a pitch. It was the first of three times he would be hit by a pitch in this game.
Skyler McDonald followed with a walk and Drew Stevens was hit by a pitch (he would be hit by a pitch again later in the game). Kody Scott was inserted to pinch-run for Stevens.
Coby Hughes came up and hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Creamer with what would prove to be the winning run.
Jacob Batson singled, scoring McDonald to make it 2-0.
Scott would score on a wild pitch.
Brady Wallace tripled, scoring Batson.
Heath Cockerill hit a sacrifice fly to score Wallace.
The sixth inning was another scoring inning that would end the game by virtue of the 10-run rule.
Logan Robinson led things off with a single, followed by a single by Wallace.
Hunter Moore singled, scoring Robinson.
Trenton Harris drew a walk, Creamer was drilled again by a pitch and Stevens was hit again, forcing in Wallace.
Hughes hit a single that scored Creamer and Harris.
The win gave the Panthers an SCOL record of 5-2 at that time, 8-3 overall.
