WCH woman pleads guilty to illegal voting

A Washington C.H. woman who attempted to vote twice in the 2015 general election pleaded guilty Monday in Fayette County Common Pleas Court to illegal voting.

Danielle R. Trende voted by absentee ballot on Oct. 21, 2015 at the Fayette County Board of Elections. That ballot was cast for the 2015 general election. Then on Nov. 3, 2015, Trende attempted to cast a second provisional ballot for the same election at the Union North polling location at the Fayette County Fairgrounds.

According to the record, Trende said she was confused and thought she would be voting for the president on Nov. 3. The 38-year-old stated she had previously voted in the 2012 presidential election.

The Fayette County Board of Elections received notice on Nov. 3 that Trende had already voted with an absentee ballot on Oct. 21. A Fayette County grand jury issued an indictment for Trende in January charging her with illegal voting. Trende’s attempted second vote at the Nov. 3 polls was not cast in the general election, according to the Fayette County Board of Elections.

An illegal vote or attempt to vote more than once at the same election is a felony of the fourth-degree in Ohio. Trende agreed to enter into the diversion program in lieu of the felony conviction. Trende remains eligible to vote.
