In a game that took little more than an hour to complete, the Miami Trace Lady Panthers softball team defeated McClain Wednesday in SCOL action, 9-0.
The game was played at Miami Trace High School and finished just shortly before the rains fell in earnest.
It was the fourth win in a row for Miami Trace. The Lady Panthers improve to 5-3 overall, 3-1 in the SCOL.
For Miami Trace, Maddie Mossbarger pitched her second shutout of the season. She pitched seven innings, allowing only three hits. She did not walk a batter and struck out five.
Shrout started and suffered the loss for the Lady Tigers.
She pitched six innings with nine hits and nine runs (five of which were earned). She walked two and struck out four.
Miami Trace scored in every inning save the second.
The Lady Panthers scored one in the first and one in the third.
Miami Trace scored two in the fourth, two in the fifth and three in the sixth.
Taylor Barrett led Miami Trace at the plate, going 2 for 4 with four rbi, one double and one triple.
Ashley Campbell had two hits, including a double and scored one run.
Olivia Wolffe had one hit and scored three runs; Alexis Schwartz had a double and one rbi and Harmonee Napier hit a double and scored one run.
“It was a great game by Maddie,” Miami Trace head coach Terry Smith said. “She kept them hitting ground balls and pop ups and had five strikeouts, which might be a season-high for her.
“Our offense continues the way it’s been all season,” Smith said. “We had five extra base hits tonight. We had balls hitting off the fence.
“Taylor Barrett had a real nice ballgame,” Smith said. “Ashley Campbell had two hits. Everyone who had a hit, they hit the ball hard.”
Miami Trace has a game scheduled at home Thursday against Huntington.
Miami Trace is scheduled to play at Hillsboro Friday and at Westfall Saturday for a doubleheader.
McClain falls to 3-3 overall, 1-2 in the SCOL.
