Lady Panther soccer falls to Unioto in Sectional, 6-0

CHILLICOTHE — On a simply beautiful autumn afternoon and evening, the Miami Trace Lady Panther soccer team traveled down US 35 to Chillicothe to take on Unioto in a Division II Sectional tournament match.

Unioto came away with a 6-0 victory.

The Lady Shermans will play at Circleville Thursday at 5 p.m. for a Sectional championship and a place in the District tournament. Circleville beat McClain Tuesday, 7-0.

Miami Trace ends the season with a record of 3-14.

It’s a marked improvement from last season, when the team did not post a win.

Unioto fairly controlled the match Tuesday, out-shooting Miami Trace, 32-4.

In goal, Taylor Barrett had 20 saves for Miami Trace.

For Unioto, Jayla Campbell scored the hat trick (three goals). Her first goal was also the first of the game, coming at the 25:10 mark of the first half.

Campbell scored again with 23:45 remaining on the clock. The assist went to Lexi Maugher.

Maddy Gumm scored for Unioto at the 18:49 mark, the assist to Stephanie Cane.

Katie Cousey scored for the Shermans at the 8:23 mark. That assist was credited to Paige Arledge.

That gave Unioto a 4-0 halftime lead.

Campbell completed the hat trick when she scored at the 18:23 mark of the second half.

Arledge scored what turned out to be the final goal of the match at the 14:59 mark.

“We ended up 3-9 in the SCOL,” Miami Trace head coach Cailtin Zook said. “That was nice. Tonight, Unioto definitely controlled the game. Our girls did step it up in the second half and started playing harder.

“I thought the girls played better in the second half and gave a pretty good effort,” Zook said. “We’re pretty hopeful for next season with everyone returning and the new freshmen coming in.”

Three Miami Trace players have received honors from the South Central Ohio League.

Lauren Truex was named First Team, All-SCOL.

Hanna Reisinger and Becca Ratliff were named Second Team, All-SCOL.
