On just a beautiful evening to be out doors, the Miami Trace Lady Panthers welcomed the Lady Lions of Washington High School for a varsity SCOL soccer match.

Washington won the first encounter between these two teams back on Sept. 15, 1-0.

Thursday, Miami Trace leveled the season series with a 2-0 victory.

Junior Lauren Truex scored the first goal, what proved to be the game-winner, assisted by freshman Becca Ratliff. That goal came with 7:56 to play in the first half.

Ratliff scored an insurance goal on a direct kick with 2:48 to play in the game.

Khenadi Grubb, a freshman, was in goal Thursday for Miami Trace. She had seven saves.

Taylor Smith was in goal for Washington.

Miami Trace had 13 shots.

“I am extremely proud of the work these girls have put in this season,” Miami Trace head coach Caitlin Zook said. “It definitely paid off tonight. The girls were excited to play tonight and they came out strong. We controlled the game a lot. I am very excited and the girls are very excited to get this win tonight.”

“The game in at our place, which we won, 1-0, we possessed the ball in the first half and scored,” Washington head coach Tyler Rhodus said. “Tonight, they possessed the ball in the first half and they scored.

“In at our place, in the second half, they possessed the ball, but we came up big,” Rhodus said. “Tonight, we possessed the ball in the second half, but they came up big, defensively.

“I thought both teams battled,” Rhodus said. “It was a physical game. They got a goal on a fast break in the first half. In the second half, we were pushing up, trying to get a goal. They got a break away and we had a foul. Their girl had a free kick and she put it in the upper left part of the goal. That was a very skillful shot.”

Miami Trace (3-11 overall, 3-7 in the SCOL), plays at Hillsboro Tuesday and at Wilmington Thursday.

Washington (2-13 overall, 2-10 in the SCOL) hosts Westfall Tuesday at 5 p.m.

The Sectional tournament draw is Sunday.
