The Washington Lady Blue Lion tennis team went 1-1 in SCOL matches last week.
On Sept. 23, Washington lost to Wilmington, 3-2.
On Sept. 24, Washington beat Miami Trace, 3-2 on the courts at the Club at Quail Run.
Against Wilmington, Megan Downing lost to Allison Brooks, 0-6, 0-6 at first singles.
At second singles, Anna Nestor beat Mai Cooper, 6-1, 6-1.
Mackenzie Cress lost at third singles to Katie Schroeder, 0-6, 0-6.
Washington and Wilmington split the matches in doubles.
At first doubles, Sierra Dawson and Maria Pickerill beat Kalistaa Adkins and Veronica Ilg, 4-6, 6-4, 10-8.
At second doubles, Yui Kobayashi and Aubry Leonard lost to Summer Payne and Sephie Reed, 1-6, 1-6.
In j-v play, three Washington girls played six total Wilmington girls; one for the first set and another for the second set.
Camryn Waldrop lost 0-6, 0-6 to Brooklyn and then Emily.
Chyna Cupp lost 0-6, 0-6 to Jojo and then Zare.
Kayleigh Elzey lost 0-6, 0-6 to Loghen and then Emma.
On Sept. 24, Washington played Miami Trace at the Club at Quail Run.
At first singles, Megan Downing beat Bethany Reiterman, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
“Megan was fighting with all she had, despite feeling under the weather, against a girl who gave everything she had for her last (home) match,” Washington coach Mitch Augenstein said. “It was electric.”
At second singles, Anna Nestor beat Haylee Higgins, 6-2, 6-0.
At third singles, Yui Kobayashi lost to Whitney Cockerill, 1-6, 2-6.
The teams split matches in doubles.
Maria Pickerill and Sierra Dawson beat Maddie Wallace and Cassie VanDyke, 6-0, 6-0.
At second doubles, Shelby Mulford and Macy Detty beat Jen Richards and Mackenzie Cress, 6-1, 6-1.
Sectionals were scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday of this week at Portsmouth.
