The Miami Trace varsity volleyball team hosted East Clinton Tuesday night and came away with a hard-fought 3-2 SCOL victory.

Scores of the games were: 21-25, 25-21, 25-13, 23-25 and 15-8.

Samantha Ritenour and Erica Marshall led Miami Trace in kills.

“We started out kind of flat and they opened up a big lead on us in the first game,” Miami Trace head coach Doug Mace said. “We came back right at the end and made a little bit of a game out of it.

“Then, we started playing better,” Mace said. “This was only Erica’s second match on varsity. We’re changing the line up just a little bit to work her in.

“I thought East Clinton played pretty well,” Mace said. “They covered the floor well; they passed everything and they served tough against us. They kept passing every ball we hit at them and sooner or later we’d make a mistake.”

Miami Trace (now 5-3 in the SCOL, 5-9 overall) is off until Tuesday when they travel to Greenfield to take on the McClain Lady Tigers, a team that beat Miami Trace back on Sept. 3.

Miami Trace is back home on Thursday, Oct. 1 to face Hillsboro.
