Miami Trace tennis beats Hillsboro

The Miami Trace Lady Panthers tennis team hosted and won an SCOL match against Hillsboro Thursday, Sept. 17.

Miami Trace won the match, 3-1.

The fifth match was called due to darkness.

At first singles, Bethany Reiterman beat Vanessa McGinnis, 6-3, 6-2.

At second singles, Haylee Higgins won a grueling three-hour match, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) over Emily Shanahan.

Whitney Cockerill won a protracted battle against Kaitlin Whiting at third singles, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5.

“(Those were) two fantastic matches that the coaches, the fans and the other players truly enjoyed watching,” Miami Trace head coach Kim Schirtzinger said. “They really gave their all.”

Maddi Wallace and Cassie VanDyke lost to Madison Hopkins and Samantha Fender at first doubles, 1-6, 2-6.

Shelby Mulford and Macy Detty were trailing Bree Opst and Jordan Niebert 3-6 in an 8-game pro set when the match was called.

On Monday, Sept. 14, Miami Trace hosted Unioto and lost that match, 3-2.

Miami Trace has a match Tuesday at Clinton-Massie and Thursday at Gardner Park against Washington at 4 p.m.
