Lady Lion tennis beats Hillsboro, EC and Circleville

The Washington Lady Blue Lion tennis team recently won three matches, all by the score of 3-2.

On Tuesday, Sept. 15, Washington visited Hillsboro High School and came away with the SCOL victory.

Freshman Megan Downing defeated senior Vanessa McGinnis in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 at first singles.

At second singles, junior Anna Nestor beat senior Emily Shannahan, 6-2, 6-2.

At third singles, sophomore Yui Kobyayshi lost to senior Kaitlyn Whiting, 0-6, 0-6.

Sophomore Maria Pickerill and junior Sierra Dawson defeated seniors Madison Hopkins and Samantha Fender at first doubles, 6-3, 6-0.

At second doubles, sophomore Mackenzie Cress and freshman Jen Richards lost to seniors Bree Opst and Jordan Neibert, 2-6, 2-6.

In j-v play against Hillsboro, Washington sophomores Camryn Waldrop and Aubry Leonard lost 2-8 to juniors Erin Clark and Peyton Kidder, 2-8.

Another pair of Washington sophomores, Robin Courts and Chyna Cupp lost 1-8 to juniors Breanna Fender and Samantha Stodgel.

On Monday, Sept. 14, Washington hosted Circleville, winning by a 3-2 margin.

At first singles, Megan Downing defeated Jinal Patel, 6-1, 6-2.

At second singles, Maria Pickerill lost to Emma Wadlington, 3-6, 0-6.

Camryn Waldrop lost at third singles to Emily Miller, 1-6, 3-6.

Sierra Dawson and Anna Nestor beat Melanie Winter and Taylor Huffer at first doubles, 6-1, 6-1.

At second doubles, Mackenzie Cress and Jen Richards defeated Megan Frazier and Rimsha Ansar, 6-3, 6-2.

In a j-v match, Washington’s Yui Kobyayshi won a pro-set against Allyson Withers, 8-4.

On Thursday, Sept. 10, Washington traveled to East Clinton High School and returned with a 3-2 SCOL victory.

At first singles, Megan Downing beat Allison Tong, 6-3, 6-2.

At second singles, Anna Nestor defeated Marissa Williams, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Jen Richards lost at third singles, 1-6, 4-6 to Courtney Graves.

The teams split the two varsity doubles courts.

Maria Pickerill and Sierra Dawson beat Kylee Hidy and Shelby Michael, 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1 at first doubles.

At second doubles, Mackenzie Cress and Yui Kobyayshi lost to Sydney Michael and Bre Davis, 3-6, 2-6.

Washington went 0-3 in j-v matches at East Clinton.

Camryn Waldrop lost to Cassie Parks, 2-6.

Aubry Leonard and Robin Courts lost to Brooke Vineyard and Hannah Pickering, 2-6.

There was one j-v match, in which Washington’s Chyna Cupp and Kayleigh Elzey lost to Bella Walters and Hayley Harrell, 1-6.
