Four people suffered minor injuries in a three-vehicle crash Monday morning in the vicinity of Miami Trace Local Schools on the district’s first day of classes.
At around 7:19 a.m. Monday, a 1999 Volkswagon, driven by Jessica L. Craig, 16, of Washington C.H., was stopped on Leslie Trace at the State Route 41 intersection to make a left turn onto State Route 41. According to Fayette County Sheriff Vernon Stanforth, a 2006 Toyota Corolla, driven by Sarah R. Andersen, 40, of Washington C.H., was stopped in the northbound lane of State Route 41 and allowed Craig’s vehicle to proceed north on 41, when Craig failed to see a 2006 Toyota Tundra, driven by Taylor R. Warner, 16, of Jeffersonville, heading south on State Route 41.
Craig pulled into the path of Warner’s vehicle and the two vehicles collided, said Stanforth. Following impact with Craig’s vehicle, Warner’s vehicle went left of the center line and hit Andersen’s vehicle. Warner’s vehicle continued southbound on State Route 41, went off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree before coming to rest.
Stanforth said all three vehicles involved in the crash sustained disabling damage and were towed from the scene.
Andersen and a 13-year-old passenger in her vehicle, and Warner and a 16-year-old passenger in his vehicle were all transported from the scene by Fayette County EMS to Fayette County Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Craig was treated at the scene by Fayette County EMS, but declined transport to the hospital.
Charges are pending in the crash as deputies continue their investigation, according to Stanforth.
