Grover wins two awards at State Fair

Chas Grover, of Fayette County, was the recipient of two major awards at the recent Ohio State Fair.

Grover was the first place winner of the Outstanding Meat Goat Exhibitor award. He received an $800 check, a director’s chair, and official Ohio State Fair Silver Belt Buckle.

The 19-year-old graduate of Miami Trace High School also received the $1,000 Meat Goat Scholarship which he will use to continue his education at Southern State Community College. The scholarship was awarded on the basis of his overall record with his Junior Fair Goat project, academic achievements and community service.

The OME award was determined by a formula based on the three components of showmanship, live placings of his animals, and a skillathon test to measure his knowledge of the meat goat industry. The awards were presented at the Sale of Champions on Sunday, Aug. 9, the final day of the 2015 Ohio State Fair.

Grover is an 11-year member of the Rowdy Ranchers 4-H Club and the son of Cindi Grover.
