Getting Ahead: Finding The Way

0

We just returned from a cruise to Alaska with Dr. Charles Stanley, and while we were in Skagway we decided to get off the ship and hike to a waterfall that was in the area. We asked directions and were told: “Just walk straight up the street a mile or so and when you reach the old cemetery it will be right behind it, you cannot miss it.”

After about 20 minutes of hiking, we were running out of town, so we stopped to ask if we were headed the right way. We were once again given the same instructions as before.

Another 20 minutes went by and half of our party wanted to turn back because they were convinced we were going the wrong way. About that time we looked across the street and saw some people walking the opposite direction, so we shouted to them and asked where they had been. They shouted back: “We have been to the water falls and they are a wonderful sight to behold. Keep going straight ahead, you are about half way there.”

Everyone was encouraged and we hiked on for another 30 minutes, never again thinking we were going the wrong way because we had talked with someone that had just been there.

Are you facing a lot of discouragement in your journey through life? Could it be that on life’s road there are others that are returning from where you are going?

If you could find those people, would you be able to continue to a wonderful place you might otherwise miss?

These and other life questions will be addressed Sunday morning as “The Gathering Place Family” meets in the Washington High School gymnasium at 10 a.m. for our pre-service connection where we enjoy coffee, juice and donuts. Our worship service and children’s church then begins at 10:30. Come at 7 p.m. and be part of our Wednesday night Bible study and children’s ministry on the third floor above Trends at 120 West Court St. in Washington C.H.
