Amy Gustin, a sixth-grade teacher at Miami Trace Middle School, was recently recognized by Battelle for Kids as a distinguished educator due to her tremendous impact on her students, colleagues and the community.

Gustin was among 42 teachers from across Ohio to receive the 2015 Celebrate Teaching Distinguished Educator Award as a representative of excellence in the teaching profession. The awards were presented during a program at the Educators Connect for Success conference in Columbus on June 16.

“I am humbled to receive this honor,” said Gustin. “It takes hard working students, supportive parents, actively involved administrators, and talented co-teachers to achieve positive results in education. I have been fortunate to have all of these great people to work with.”

Celebrate Teaching is Battelle for Kids’ commitment to celebrate, honor and inspire great teaching. Since 2012, the organization has recognized more than 150 outstanding teachers, who have shown powerful results in the classroom, with the Distinguished Educator Award. The 2015 class of Distinguished Educators was selected for demonstrating evidence of great teaching in multiple ways, including academic, non-cognitive and community measures.

“The impact of a teacher starts with a student and reverberates through the classroom, the school and the community. It is truly the gift that keeps on giving,” said Jim Mahoney, executive director of Battelle for Kids. “Congratulations to all the outstanding teachers in the 2015 class of Distinguished Educators, and thank you to the thousands of educators across Ohio who give so selflessly of themselves to teach our children.”

“Amy Gustin’s designation as Battelle’s Distinguished Educator is well deserved,” said Jeff Conroy, former middle school principal. “Amy continuously assesses and meets the diversified needs of all her students. She is constantly seeking for innovative ways to drive her students to excel and grow.”
