The fourth-annual Bloomingburg Community Day event will take place this year in conjunction with the village’s 200th anniversary.
“We started out after the school in town was tore down and we came together and looked for ways to show Bloomingburg is still here, and we wanted to bring people together to enjoy the community,” Tom Harris, treasurer of the Community Day event, said. “Once we learned that this was also the village’s 200th anniversary as well, we thought what a better time to celebrate than during the Community Day.”
Many attractions will be available in Bloomingburg on Aug. 8 beginning at 11 a.m. around the town hall. The Bloomingburg-Paint-Marion Fire District will start the event with the annual fish fry, a car show will begin and continue until 4 p.m. and a cornhole tournament will hold registration at 11 a.m. and will begin at noon (entry fee is $10). Other attractions include live entertainment beginning at noon, a silent auction, a rummage and bake sale at the Presbyterian Church, a pie baking contest (entries need to be made by 1 p.m. for judging at 2 p.m.), face painting, a Chinese auction, a 50/50 raffle, as well as a community-wide yard sale.
“Bob Grim will be presenting the history of Bloomingburg during the event in honor of the anniversary of the village,” Harris said. “We are also honoring three individuals for their contribution to the community. Two of the individuals have passed on, but one is still living and all will be honored during the event. We would also like to invite all of the previous Bloomingburg mayors to come and join us for this exciting event.”
The village is also inviting craft vendors to come and sell during the event. Pre-registration is required and can be completed by calling either Harris at (740) 437-7652 or Lorie Johnson at (740) 437-7556 before July 31. All vendors and crafters are welcome to call and join the festivities.
Additionally, the village is looking for submissions for a cutest kid contest. If interested send a photo of your newborn to 3-year old to 62 Main Street, P.O. Box 186, Bloomingburg 43106 or drop the photo off at the town hall Mondays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Tuesdays through Thursdays, 8 a.m. to noon. The winners (one boy and one girl) will be selected by patrons of the Community Day event where they can put money in for the child they choose and the two with the highest amounts of money win.
“The whole county is invited to join us for a fun day full of stuff to do for the whole family,” Harris said.
