The board of The United Way of Fayette County has named a new president, Debbie Bryant.

Focusing on education, income and health, United Way has grown a large following of volunteers and businesses that help to promote communities all over the nation. The local United Way has been helping the community in many ways for years, including transportation, supply drives, donations and more.

Bryant has lived in Clinton County where she grew up until three years ago when she moved to Washington Court House. She is a Wilmington High School graduate and comes to United Way with over 12 years of volunteer work experience. Additionally, she was a Relay for Life “trainer” for many years with the American Cancer Society.

She replaces Whitney Gentry, who served the community for 14 years in the position, after she took a job as the new Chamber of Commerce president.

“Whitney did such a great job when she served as president,” Bryant said. “I have lots of energy and plenty of volunteer experience and cannot wait to get some things done. It just feels good to be in this position to be able to give back to the community. I have some big shoes to fill, but I am looking forward to working with United Way.”

After interviewing several other applicants, the board found Bryant to be the best choice for the job. Already she has started her time as president with planning for the next major campaign, the “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive. No dates have been set for this event, but within the next few weeks Bryant said collection bins will be distributed to area businesses and the community is invited to donate to the campaign.

“I am really looking forward to meeting the various agencies that help us in the community,” Bryant said. “I am hoping to learn from these agencies about their role and how best we can help them help others. I am very excited to be taking this role.”

A few programs that will be coming back to the community, or will be added, are in the works. Currently help for the Warehouse meal and school resource program, the Second Chance Leaning Center and Fayette County Fitness are just a few programs that will be coming back to the United Way.
