Wednesday Farmers Market a work in progress

The Wednesday Fayette County Farmers Market is most certainly a work in progress. Some of our Saturday vendors are attempting to rework their business plans and schedules in order to attend the Wednesday market and others will not be attending.

In addition, we have invites out to new vendor prospects who often can’t do a Saturday market. We do have commitments from at least two produce growers who will be attending as soon as they have sufficient seasonal harvest. Other vendors have stated that it is a lot simpler to bring fresh berries to market in an afternoon than it is for a morning market. I suspect sweet corn would also be easier to harvest and bring to market in an afternoon also.

A limited supply of black raspberries and strawberries will be available this Wednesday.

The location is 1650 Columbus Ave. (TSC parking lot) and the market will run from 4 to 7 p.m. This location also accepts charge/debit cards and SNAP EBT cards. The following vendors have indicated they should be there (among others who did not know yet):

Bye Gardens (Brian & Elaine Yoder): lettuce, tomatoes, kale, strawberries, their first blueberries, cinnamon rolls. They have to leave at 6:30 for church.

Mary’s This & That (Mary Ford): cat nip toys, scarlet and gray dog sweaters, NEW goose outfits, hand painted garden items and unpolished stones.

Martin’s Holiday & Weekly Baking (Vaughn, Cinda Martin & Hunter Rohrer): assorted breads, dinner rolls, whoopie pies and seasonal produce.

Dale’s Crafts (Dale Butler): tractor, motorcycle and school bus flower boxes, flower stands, herb garden stand, cornhole boards, cornhole bags and other wood craft items.

Persinger Produce & Cottage Food (David Persinger): black raspberries, assorted home made jams/jellies, and Texas sheet cakes.

Shady Grove Farms (Harold & Kelly Dillon): will probably be there with seasonal produce, jams/jellies, farm fresh eggs, selected pork products and potted herbs. Shady Grove reports supplying their meat production animals and egg laying hens with only non-GMO feed.

WindFlower Farm (Elaine Anschutz): assorted baked goods and mixes, home crafts.
