Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) Past Ohio Department Commander Shawn A. Cox installed the Henry Casey Camp officers for 2023 at a recent regular meeting of the camp. The camp charter was draped in black in honor of camp member Judge Michael Daugherty, who died Sept. 8.

Cox congratulated the officers and camp members for their outstanding performance during the past year in helping preserve our Civil War heritage. He gave special note to several activities of the camp, including their participation in Memorial Day ceremonies in five communities; helping with fundraising cemetery tours in two different cemeteries, and the marking of the grave site of the Clark County last surviving Union Civil War veteran with a bronze military style plaque. The camp raised over $2,400 to pay for the plaque.

Several of the Henry Casey Camp members also belong to the Sons of Veterans Reserve (SVR), which is the uniformed division of the SUVCW and its members participate in ceremonies and historical events dressed in Civil War military uniforms. The members belong to Company C, 20th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, commanded by Captain Shane L. Milburn.

The unit was awarded the national commanders unit citation in November in Gettysburg, Pa. for its outstanding performance.
