Deer Creek Daisies celebrate Christmas with luncheon

It was a beautiful sunny winter day as the Deer Creek Daisies gathered for a delicious lunch overlooking Deer Creek Lake.

Hosts for the December meeting were Judy and Rita. The table was decorated with poinsettias and tin reindeer. Each place setting had a battery operated lit candle. Several members took home a poinsettia as their name was drawn. A plate of homemade buckeyes were passed around as an appetizer.

After lunch the group of gardeners carried packages, cards, individual gifts for all into the lobby and gathered close to the fireplace. A game was first played called Christmas Songs______Finish the Lyrics. There were 20 songs, most you knew as a kid but sometimes the mind goes blank!

A few of the songs were:1 In the meadow, we can build a snowman, and pretend that ________2 Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost ________3 He sees you when you’re sleeping, He knows ________4 Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, you’ll ________5 I’m dreaming of a white Christmas with every________6 Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the ________ 7 City sidewalks, busy sidewalks, dressed in ________ 8 They never let poor Rudolph join ________ 9 Oh what fun it is to ride in a ________ 10 I wanna wish you a “Merry Christmas” from the ________.

The winner was Barbara Vance and she sang most of the correct answers.

Connie then gave a talk and demonstration on how to preserve geraniums for the next season. Each member received a paper grocery bag filled with a zonal geranium (Super Moon Red) that she dug this fall from her brick planters. In addition she passed out instructions on “How to Overwinter Geraniums.” You can Google Search as there are many websites and videos showing the process. She suggested Garden Gate Magazine (Nov.30, 2018), a 2 1/2 minute video.

Last but not least, let the gift and card exchange begin. Each member passed out their goodies to all. There were handmade tinsel wreaths, small live poinsettias, daisy candy, reindeer lollipops, peppermint hand cream, Christmas note tablets, candies of all kinds, hand-painted Christmas gift tags, a Christmas writing, a large holiday bag to carry all the holiday treats, and most special, a small crystal angel with the name and date of Julie 2022, a most precious petal and friend to all who knew her.
