Blue Lions’ DeWees to play in tennis District

PORTSMOUTH — The Division II Sectional tennis tournament was held May 9 and 10 in Portsmouth.

Washington High School’s Garrett DeWees placed eighth to qualify to the District tournament, which is set for Saturday in Athens.

Also for Washington, Blake Bagheri and Drew Ferguson played singles and Aiden Daugherty and Josh Cartwright and Ian Rheinscheld and Jon Rader played doubles.

For Miami Trae, Jacob Cline, Jacob Pettit and Robbie Bennett played singles and Carter Bainter and Jonah Goddard and Kaden Howard and Tucker Walton played doubles.

DeWees played Cline of Miami Trace and DeWees won that match, 6-2, 6-1.

In his second match, DeWees faced Avery Gosselin of New Boston and won that match, 6-0, 6-0.

DeWees then defeated Teegan Carpenter of Ironton, 6-3, 7-5.

DeWees will play Luke Frost of Athens in the first round of the District tournament Saturday.

Drew Ferguson played Nathaneil Knight and lost that match.

Blake Bagheri beat Jude Schaal of Logan Elm, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

Bagheri defeated Chaz Myers of Wheelersburg, 6-3, 6-1.

Bagheri lost to Ethan Crabtree of Jackson, 2-6, 8-6, 6-3.

Jacob Pettit had a first-round bye and then played Gabe Kouns of West. Kouns won that match.

Robbie Bennett played Justin Darnell of Circleville and won that match, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6.

Bennett then fell to Landon Smith of Jackson, 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles, Ian Rheinscheld and Jon Rader played Jenkins and Vazquez of Circleville. The Tigers won that match, 6-1, 6-0.

Aiden Daughtery and Josh Cartwright played Hinton and Jerrell of Circleville and lost that match, 6-1, 6-0.

Kaden Howard and Tucker Walton played Boltenhouse and Gaskin of Logan Elm and won that match, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3.

Howard and Walton then lost to Choi and McCarthy of Athens, 6-0, 6-0.

Carter Bainter and Jonah Goddard played Barr and Owens of Athens. The Miami Trace pair won that match, 6-3, 6-2.

In the next round, Bainter and Goddard fell to Coleman and Coleman of West.
