Cavs score late to beat Lady Lions

The Washington Lady Blue Lion varsity softball team hosted Chillicothe for a Frontier Athletic Conference game Wednesday, April 28.

The game was extended to an eighth inning, where Chillicothe scored four times and held on to post a 10-6 victory.

Fromm started for Chillicothe and pitched 4.2 innings. She allowed three runs (all earned) on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Riffe got the win in relief, pitching 3.1 innings with seven hits and three runs (all earned) with four walks and one strikeout.

Brooklyn Devenport started for Washington in the circle. She pitched eight innings, taking the loss. She allowed eight hits and 10 runs (three earned) with 14 strikeouts and one walk.

Defensively, Washington committed eight errors.

It was a scoreless game until Chillicothe scored three runs in the top of the third.

The Cavs made it 4-0 with a run in the top of the fourth.

Washington got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth.

Meredith Pabst led off with a double to left field. Kassidy Olsson was sent in as a courtesy runner.

Olsson went to third on a passed ball and scored on a ground out by Kearria Marcum.

Washington drew closer with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

With one out, Corynn Chrisman hit a single.

Brooklyn Foose grounded out, with Chrisman moving to second.

Makenna Knisley then belted a home run over the fence in center, setting the score at 4-3, Chillicothe.

The Cavs scored to make it 5-3 in the top of the sixth.

Washington responded with one run in the bottom of the sixth.

Kalana Smith led off the inning with a walk. She advanced to second on a ground out by Mallori Tucker.

Emma Funari singled to center, scoring Tucker to make it 5-4.

Chillicothe stayed a step ahead with a run in the top of the seventh.

Washington tied the game in the bottom of the seventh.

The rally began after the first two batters were retired.

Pabst singled and Olsson ran for her.

Tristan Hammock singled to center. The runners went to second and third on the throw back to the infield.

Tucker walked to load the bases and Funari walked, scoring Olsson to make it 6-5.

Marcella Jones singled, scoring Hammock to knot the game, 6-6.

Chillicothe scored four runs in the top of the eighth with a single, a fielder’s choice, an error, another single, a second error and a hit batsman.

With one out in the bottom of the eighth, Foose walked, Makenna Knisley singled, Pabst hit into a fielder’s choice and Hammock singled to load the bases.

The next batter grounded into a force at second to end the game.
