Lady Lions win 2 at Southeastern

The Washington Lady Blue Lion varsity softball team played a doubleheader at Southeastern High School near Chillicothe Saturday, April 24.

Washington won the first game, 13-7 and took the second one, 6-5 in five innings.

The second game was called after five innings due to the weather.

In the first game, Makenna Knisley started and pitched seven innings to record the win for Washington. She allowed 11 hits and seven runs (five earned) with three strikeouts and three walks.

Lockwood started and took the loss for Southeastern. She pitched seven innings with 17 hits and 13 runs (12 earned) with five strikeouts and three walks.

Washington scored three runs in the top of the first.

Corynn Chrisman led off the game with a triple and scored on a double by Brooklyn Foose.

Foose stole third and scored on a single by Makenna Knisley. Brooklyn Devenport came on to run for Knisley.

Devenport went to second on a passed ball and moved to third on a ground out by Meredith Pabst.

Devenport scored on a sacrifice fly by Addison Knisley.

Southeastern got two of those runs back in the bottom of the first.

Washington scored one run in the top of the second.

With one out, Marcella Jones singled and Kassidy Olsson walked.

With two away, Foose doubled, scoring Jones to make it 4-2, Washington.

The Lady Lions scored three runs in the top of the third.

Pabst led off with a double and Addison Knisley singled, with Pabst going to third.

Mallori Tucker went in to run for Knisley. Pabst scored on an error and Tristan Hammock singled, scoring Tucker.

Funari had a hit that scored Hammock.

Southeastern made it 7-5 with three runs in the bottom of the third.

After a scoreless fourth and fifth innings, Washington scored five runs in the top of the sixth.

Olsson led off with a bunt single and Chrisman tripled to right.

Foose bunted into a fielder’s choice, scoring Chrisman.

Foose advanced to second on a passed ball and went to third on a ground out by Makenna Knisley.

Pabst singled to center, scoring Foose to make it 10-5, Washington.

Addison Knisley singled, putting runners at first and second.

Tucker went in to run for Knisley.

Pabst and Tucker both advanced on a passed ball and Hammock singled, scoring Pabst and Tucker to give the Lady Lions a 12-5 lead.

Washington scored its final run in the top of the seventh.

Jones led off with a walk and Olsson bunted into a fielder’s choice.

Chrisman doubled to center, scoring Jones to put the score at 13-5.

Southeastern scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the 13-7 final score.

In the second game Saturday, Washington won, 6-5.

Brooklyn Devenport pitched five innings for the win for Washington. She allowed six hits and five runs (one earned) with seven strikeouts and four walks.

Huff started and took the loss for Southeastern. She pitched three innings with three hits, six runs (four earned), four strikeouts and six walks.

Lockwood pitched two innings with one hit allowed.

Washington put two runs on the board in the top of the second.

With the first batter retired, Emma Funari singled to left.

Kassidy Olsson went in to run for Funari. She stole second and soon stole third.

With two away, Devenport walked and Olsson scored on a wild pitch.

Devenport scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0, Washington.

Southeastern scored one run in the bottom of the second.

Washington scored four runs in the top of the third.

Makenna Knisley walked and Kalana Smith came in as a pinch-runner.

Smith stole second and Tristan Hammock walked.

Smith went to third on a passed ball and Hammock stole second.

With the first out recorded, Mallori Tucker walked to load the bases.

Funari hit a double, scoring Smith and Hammock.

Olsson went in to run for Funari. Tucker scored on a passed ball and later Olsson scored on a passed ball.

The two wins put Washington’s record at 7-11 overall.

Washington will play at Unioto Tuesday at 5 p.m.
