Lady Lion softball beats Chillicothe, 12-9

CHILLICOTHE — It was a real slug-fest when the Washington Lady Lion varsity softball team visited Chillicothe for a Frontier Athletic Conference game Friday, April 23.

Washington collected 16 hits in a 12-9 victory.

Makenna Knisley started and pitched a complete game for the win for Washington. She allowed 10 hits and nine runs (seven earned) with eight strikeouts and one walk.

Riffe started for Chillicothe and pitched one-third of an inning. She allowed three hits and four runs (all earned) with two walks.

Fromm took the loss for Chillicothe. She pitched 6.2 innings with 13 hits and eight runs (all earned). She struck out five and walked two.

Washington had three players with three or more hits.

Makenna Knisley was 3 for 5 with four RBI; Meredith Pabst went 4 for 5 with a home run, one RBI and one run scored.

Corynn Chrisman went 3 for 4 with one run and one RBI.

Washington got busy right away with four runs in the top of the first.

Kassidy Olsson led off with a walk, followed by a walk to Brooklyn Foose.

Both runners moved up on a passed ball.

Knisley singled to left field, scoring Olsson and Foose.

Marcella Jones went in to run for Knisley.

Pabst singled to center, moving Jones to third.

Brooklyn Devenport came in to run for Pabst.

Addison Knisley singled, scoring Jones.

Chrisman bunted for a single, scoring Devenport.

Chillicothe scored one run in the bottom of the first.

After a scoreless second inning, Chillicothe scored a run in the bottom of the third.

Leading 4-2, Washington scored two runs in the top of the fourth.

After the first two batters were retired, Olsson walked and stole second. Foose then walked and Olsson went to third on a wild pitch.

Foose stole second and Makenna Knisley singled, scoring Olsson to make it 5-2.

Jones went in to run for Knisley.

Foose scored on a passed ball and Pabst singled before the third out, with Washington leading, 6-2.

Chillicothe scored one run in the fourth and jumped into the lead, 8-6, scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Chillicothe scored one run in the sixth to extend its lead to 9-6.

The Lady Lions erupted for six runs in the top of the seventh.

Pabst led off the inning with a home run to center field.

With one out, Chrisman doubled to left field.

Tristan Hammock singled to left and advanced to second on the throw, while Chrisman went to third.

Jones singled, scoring Chrisman.

Emma Funari singled to center with Jones advancing to third. Funari went to second on the throw back to the infield.

With a second out recorded, Foose doubled to center, scoring Jones and Funari.

Makenna Knisley singled, scoring Foose to make it 12-9.

Chillicothe went out in order in the bottom of the seventh with two strikeouts and a ground out.
