Panthers rally past Chillicothe, 9-3

The Miami Trace Panthers varsity baseball team hosted the Chillicothe Cavaliers for the second Frontier Athletic Conference game of the season Friday, April 9.

The Panthers won this game, 9-3, getting a combined pitching effort from Conner Bucher, who started and got the win, and Gabe Campagna.

Bucher pitched five innings with seven hits and three runs (all unearned) with 11 strikeouts and one walk.

Campagna pitched two scoreless innings with five strikeouts.

The Panthers were in double figures in hits against the Cavaliers with 11.

Seymour started and took the loss for Chillicothe, going 3.1 innings with five hits and seven runs (two earned). He struck out two and walked three.

Cutright pitched 2.2 innings with six hits, two runs (one earned), three strikeouts and one walk.

Bucher also had a big day at the plate, with two hits, including a home run and two RBI. He also reached on an error and scored, for a total of three runs.

Luke Henry went 2 for 4 with two RBI; Dylan Bernard hit a double, going 2 for 3 with one RBI.

Hunter McBee, Braden Osborne, Josh Gilmore, Wes May and Bo Little each had one base hit.

The Panthers scored three runs in the bottom of the first.

Bucher reached on an error and advanced to second on a single by McBee.

Henry’s ground out scored Bucher and Gilmore’s sacrifice fly plated McBee.

Osborne reached second base on an error and after stealing third scored on a double by Bernard.

Chillicothe tied the game in the top of the third.

The Panthers surged ahead in the bottom of the fourth.

Wes May walked and Ashton Connell sacrificed him to second.

There followed the two-run home run to center by Bucher and a 5-3 Panthers lead.

McBee kept things going by reaching on an error. Henry singled for two aboard.

Gilmore singled into right field, scoring McBee.

Osborne singled, loading the bases.

Henry was out trying to steal home. The runners moved up and Bernard walked, again loading the bases.

Campagna reached on an error that scored Gilmore to give the Panthers an 8-3 lead.

The Panthers scored one more in the sixth and closed out the conference victory to move to 1-1, 8-1 overall.

Miami Trace is scheduled to play at Hillsboro Wednesday at 5 p.m.
