Lady Lions split DH with Blanchester

The Washington Lady Blue Lions varsity softball team split a doubleheader with Blanchester Saturday, April 10.

In the first game, Washington defeated Blanchester, 8-5.

Blanchester got the victory in the second game, 6-3.

Makenna Knisley was the winning pitcher of the first game for Washington. She pitched seven innings with eight hits and five runs (none earned), six strikeouts and one walk. She hit one batter.

Washington prevailed in the game despite six errors.

Stanforth started and took the loss for Blanchester. She pitched 4.1 innings with seven hits and six runs (four earned) with four strikeouts and three walks.

Dawley pitched 1.2 innings for the Wildcats with three hits and two earned runs. She struck out three and walked one.

Addison Knisley was the leading hitter for Washington, going 3 for 4 with one run scored.

The top of the order came through at the plate, with Kassidy Olsson, Brooklyn Foose and Knisley each collecting two hits. Each of those players hit a double.

Olsson and Foose each scored twice; Knisley had two runs driven in and Foose drove in one.

Washington scored one run in the bottom of the second.

Blanchester scored two in the third and one in the fourth.

Washington responded with five runs in the bottom of the fifth. They sent nine batters to the plate, garnering four hits, two walks and two ground outs to generate those runs.

Blanchester scored twice in the top of the sixth to make it a 6-5 game.

Washington scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth. With one away, Olsson hit a double. She advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a hit by Foose.

Foose soon scored on a double by Knisley.

Saturday’s results put Washington’s record at 3-7 overall.

The Lady Lions are scheduled to play a Frontier Athletic Conference game at Jackson Wednesday.

Washington got off to a good start in the second game of the doubleheader, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first.

Blanchester scored three runs in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth.

The game was ended after five innings when it started to rain.

Meredith Pabst started and took the loss for Washington. She pitched five innings with five hits and six runs (none earned). She struck out six and walked two.

Washington had five errors in the game.

Mueller was the winning pitcher for Blanchester. She pitched five innings with five hits and three runs (all earned) with two strikeouts and one walk.

For Washington, Kassidy Olsson, Brooklyn Foose, Makenna Knisley, Pabst and Corynn Chrisman each had one single.

Renick had two of Blanchester’s five hits.

The Wildcats committed one error in the game.
