Miami Trace falls to Warren in soccer Sectional

VINCENT — The Miami Trace High School girls soccer team made the long trip over to Washington County (southeast Ohio, with the Ohio River running nearby) to play the Warren Warriors in a Division II Sectional tournament game Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Warren won the match, 8-2.

Warren scored the first two goals of the game at the 26:53 and 14:08 minute marks, respectively, in the first half.

Miami Trace responded at the 5:36 mark with a goal from Magarah Bloom assisted by Jana Griffith. Warren scored one more during the first half for a half-time lead of 3-1.

Warren pulled ahead in the second half scoring five more goals.

Miami Trace responded with one more goal, again from Bloom, with 6:24 left to go in the game.

Warren outshot Miami Trace, 33 to 7. Keeley Ramirez had seven saves in the goal and Jyllian Skaggs had eight saves in the goal for Miami Trace.

Miami Trace finishes the 2020 season with a record of 2-15. They were 2-8 in the Frontier Athletic Conference.

“Warren is a talented team and (was) a tough opponent for us,” Miami Trace head coach Caitlin Franics said. “We wish them luck as they continue in the tournament. I am proud of the effort our girls put forth and (I) know they left everything they had on the field.

“We will sorely miss our seniors as we move into next season, but I believe the impact they had on our team will drive us forward as we look to rebuild our program next season.”

In other Division II girls Sectional soccer tournament games Tuesday, Oct. 20: Unioto 11, Washington 0; Hillsboro 2, Athens 1; McClain 2, Circleville 1; Waverly 9, Gallia Academy 2; Marietta 8, Sheridan 0; Jackson 2, Logan Elm 1, OT.

Sectional championship match-ups for Saturday, Oct. 24: Fairfield Union vs. McClain; Warren vs. Waverly; Unioto vs. Hillsboro and Marietta vs. Jackson. District semifinal matches are scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 29 and the District championship match is set for Saturday, Oct. 31.
