The Miami Trace High School varsity volleyball team continued a splendid start to the 2020 season with a three-set match win over visiting Logan Elm Monday, Sept. 14.

Scores of the match were: 25-19, 25-20 and 25-19.

Miami Trace improves to 8-0 overall with the victory.

Statistically for Miami Trace, Olivia Fliehman led with 18 kills; Laura Robinson had 14 kills and Saylor Moore had five kills.

Delaney Eakins had three ace serves for Miami Trace.

It was a match-up of two long-time coaches in Aaron Ridenour for Logan Elm and Doug Mace for Miami Trace.

“He has done really well with (Logan Elm),” Mace said. “He has a young team; I think he only has two seniors. They are getting better. Last year, they were a lot of freshmen and sophomores. They play in a real tough league (Mid-State League).

“Our kids stayed composed,” Mace said. “We had some times there where they would gain points against us. You begin to think, ‘what’s going to happen next?’ But, they stayed mature and did the things we needed them to do to pull out the win.

“This is something brand new for us here,” Mace said. “We’re 8-0 right now. We’re happy. We’re excited. We’ve told the girls not to worry about an undefeated season. We want them to just play and have fun. So far, they’re keeping their composure, they’re going out and doing the things they need to do and staying pretty loose. If they can continue that, hopefully we’ll keep getting better.

“They keep finding ways to win,” Mace said. “Each time we’ve had to change a little bit and make some adjustments and so far they’re doing a good job of that.”

Miami Trace hosted McClain Tuesday and will host Hillsboro Thursday. The j-v game starts at 5 p.m.
