Lady Lions beat East Clinton, 5-3

On an evening better suited to be inside by the fire, the Washington Lady Blue Lions softball team hosted East Clinton for an SCOL encounter.

Washington won the game, 5-3.

The Lady Lions are now 2-2 overall, 1-2 in the SCOL.

Ciera Strahler started for Washington and got the win.

She pitched five innings with four hits and two runs (both earned), one walk and two strikeouts.

Kate Jude pitched two innings with two hits and one run (it was earned), no walks and two strikeouts.

S. Christian started and took the loss for East Clinton. She pitched six innings with 12 hits and five runs (four earned) with no walks and five strikeouts.

East Clinton scored two runs in the top of the first.

Washington responed with one run in the bottom of the first.

The Lady Lions scored single runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings, while East Clinton scored one in the sixth.

Taylor Harrington hit a home run (that coming in the bottom of the fourth) and a double for Washington.

Megan Tucker hit a home run and a triple for the Lady Lions.

Wendy Hawk had two hits and Jude drove in two runs.

“They went small-ball on us,” Washington head coach Randy Elzey said. “They brought a lot of slappers to the plate. I don’t know how many put-outs Wendy Hawk (shortstop) had tonight, but it was several.

“We turned a double play tonight,” Elzey said. “We had some kids step up at the plate, including Taylor and Megan hitting home runs for us.

“Ciera did well on the mound,” Elzey said. “We brought Kate in and she finished up for us.”

Washington is back at home to host Hillsboro Wednesday at 5 p.m.
