Cavalier tennis shuts out Blue Lions

CHILLICOTHE — The Washington Blue Lion tennis team traveled to the Ohio University branch campus to take on the Chillicothe Cavaliers in an SCOL match-up, the league opener for the Blue Lions.

Chillicothe won the match, 5-0.

At first singles it was quite a battle, as Washington’s Kenny Upthegrove took on Joseph Herlihy.

Herlihy won the match, 6-4, 6-7 (4-7) and, in the final set, due to encroaching darkness, it was played as a tie-breaker to 10, with Herlihy winning, 10-5.

At second singles, Will Krieger beat Grant Mustain, 6-3, 6-4.

At third singles, Sean McCorkle defeated Jordan Behm, 6-3, 6-1.

At first doubles, Ryan Littler and Gabby LaPurga beat Madalyn Wayne and Max Schroeder, 6-0, 6-0.

At second doubles, Max Krieger and Pierce Wissler defeated Brody Morris and Jakob Snyder, 6-1, 6-1.

Washington (now 1-1 on the season) is back at home Monday to take on East Clinton.

The Blue Lions have four home matches next week. On Wednesday, Washington hosts Hillsboro, followed by London on Thursday and Wilmington on Friday. Matches start at 4:30 p.m.
