The Miami Trace Lady Panthers hosted Fairfield Union on Tuesday evening, March 29.

The Falcons feature many returning players from last year’s talented Regional runner-up team.

Fairfield Union won the game, 16-6 in six innings.

Fairfield Union scored two in the first and five in the second inning.

Miami Trace put one run on the board in the third inning.

The Falcons posted a pair of runs in the fifth for a 9-1 lead.

The Lady Panthers scored three in the sixth, to close to within five runs.

However, Fairfield Union scored seven in the sixth.

Miami Trace scored two in the sixth. The game ended by virtue of the 10-run rule.

Olivia Wolffe pitched for Miami Trace, working six innings.

She allowed 16 runs (9 earned) on 17 hits. She walked three and struck out one.

Miami Trace hurt their own cause with seven errors.

Alexis Schwartz went 2 for 4 with two doubles, one run and one rbi.

Cassidy Lovett was 2 for 3 with one walk and two rbi.

“We hit the ball well tonight,” Miami Trace head coach Terry Smith said. “Our defense is not playing up to par right now.

“They were one game from going to the State last year,” Smith said. “They return a lot of people. We had 10 hits against one of the best pitchers around. The night before, they beat Nelsonville-York, 25-0. The Eaton girl pitched a no-hitter and they hit five home runs in that game. Olivia kept them in the yard. They had two triples and the rest were singles.”

Miami Trace lost at home to Chillicothe in the SCOL opener Wednesday, 9-5. Please see Friday’s Record-Herald for a report on that game.

Miami Trace will be at East Clinton Friday and at Madison Plains Saturday. On Saturday, Madison Plains will play Marion Elgin first. Then, Marion Elgin will play Miami Trace at 1 p.m. The third game on Saturday will feature Miami Trace taking on Madison Plains.

Miami Trace will be back at home Monday to take on Wilmington in SCOL action.
