Panthers, Blue Lions compete at Sectional

The Division II Southeast District swim meet was held Saturday, Feb. 8 at Ohio University in Athens.

“We had a great meet,” Washington and Miami Trace head coach Katie Kasberg said.

Washington’s girls team placed fifth out of 21 teams with 225 team points.

Miami Trace was sixth with 219 points.

“Both teams narrowly defeated McClain (seventh with 211 points) who came out barely ahead of us at the FAC,” Kasberg said. “(The) McClain girls have been our closest competition this season, besides each other.”

The Washington boys team was fifth out of 20 teams with 188 points. Miami Trace finished tied for 12th with Wheelersburg with 83 team points.

The following swimmers qualified for Districts, which were held at The Ohio State University on Wednesday, Feb. 12:

WCH Girls 200 Medley Relay: Audrey Lotz, Julie Bailey, Addy Newsome, Haley Brenner

Miami Trace Girls 400 Freestyle Relay: Cameron Bucher, Keely McBride, Kylie Pettit, Lilly Litteral

WCH Boys 400 Freestyle Relay: Ty Rose, Ryan Elrich, Cameron Johnson, Ben Harper

Julie Bailey also qualified in the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 breaststroke.

Julie Bailey also reset her previously held record in the 200 individual medley to a time of 2:31.73.
