FCS hoops tourney this weekend

The third annual Fayette Christian School/McDonald’s Invitational will be played at Fayette Christian School this Friday and Saturday. The tournament is sponsored by the Epifano McDonald’s of Fayette County and Jamestown.

This year’s tournament will feature four teams.

The opening game will be Friday at 6 p.m. with Fayette Christian hosting Wayside Baptist from Bucyrus, Ohio. These two schools have faced off in the past in both basketball and soccer.

Top names include Nate Fishpaw, Judson Gregory and Nicolas Garcia. The Warriors are coached by Tom Baum.

The 8 p.m. game features the Mentor Christian Crusaders taking on the Heritage Christian Academy Saints.

Mentor played in the invitational two years ago here in Fayette County. Some familiar names returning include Brett Hixson, Alex Horvath and Matthew Goldfuss. Chad Carafa is the team’s head coach.

Heritage Christian Academy is new to the tournament this year. They will be coming in from Ravenswood, West Virginia to participate in the event.

Fayette Christian won the first two basketball invitationals held in January 2018 and 2019.

Refreshments will be provided through the two-day event including Saturday breakfast.

Saturday the consolation contest will start at 9 a.m. and the championship game will begin at 11 a.m.

Admission will be charged at the door.
