Lady Lions fall to Massie

ADAMS TOWNSHIP — With a renewed scoring touch in the second half, Clinton-Massie pulled away from Washington 56-42 Saturday in South Central Ohio League girls basketball action at the Lebanon Road gym.

The win puts the Div. III 9th-ranked Falcons at 15-3 overall and 9-3 in the SCOL.

Washington drops to 6-12 overall and 3-9 in league play.

Hannah Haithcock led Washington with 15 points, 11 of those coming in the second half.

Miquela Santoro had 15 points in the second half and finished with a game-best 19 points for the Falcons.

Massie was 11 for 17 at the free throw line while Washington was 13 for 18.

The Falcons were just 5 for 9 at the line in the final period.

With five players scoring, Massie took the early lead, 11-6 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second, though, Washington hit on 6 of 8 free throw attempts and kept pace going into the intermission, down 21-16.

But as Haithcock began to heat up for the Blue Lions, so did Santoro for the Falcons. Haithcock had five points in the third and six in the fourth, but Santoro countered with six in the third and nine in the fourth.

The Falcons poured in 16 points in the third to extend the lead to 37-28 then put the game away in the final quarter with a 19-14 margin.

Washington improved to 7-12 overall on Monday, Jan. 25 with a 53-49 win at North Adams.

Washington’s next game is Monday at Lynchburg-Clay with the reserve game starting at 6 p.m. The Lady Mustangs are 16-1 and are ranked No. 10 in the State in Division III.

Massie j-v team beats Washington

Despite making just 7 of 24 free throws, the Clinton-Massie reserve girls basketball team defeated Washington 26-18 Saturday, Jan. 23 in South Central Ohio League action.

Madilyn Newton had 10 of her game-high 16 points in the first period as the Falcons grabbed a 12-0 lead.

However, Washington held Massie scoreless in the second quarter to make it a 12-11 game at halftime in favor of CMHS.

Emily Ireland and Haley Conley had four points each for Ed Machado’s squad while Kendall Cloud and Sydney Leary had one point each.

Maddy Garrison, Breanna Taylor and Savanna Davis scored four points each for the Blue Lions.

Tabby Woods and Delaney Greer had three points each for the visitors.
