On Monday, Jan. 25, the Washington eighth grade boys basketball team hosted county rival Miami Trace for their last home game of the year.

The Lions came away with 40-27 victory over the Panthers.

The Lions played very well on the defensive end of the court limiting shots and controlling the glass which led to a lot of transition baskets, according to coach Ryan Garrison.

The Panthers were able to hold the deficit to seven points going into the half, but a strong third period offensively in the paint for Trevor Rarrick, Garitt Leisure and Eli Lynch helped stretch the lead to 13 and the Lions maintained that lead to finish the game.

Leading scorers for Washington were Trevor Rarrick with 11 and Eli Lynch with 10. Also for the Blue Lions, Garitt Leisure had 8, Levi Ludwick had 5, Ryan Schwartz with 4 and R.G. Crabtree had 2.
