Blue Lion 8th grade halts 3-game skid

On Thursday, Jan. 21, the Washington Blue Lion eighth grade boys basketball team hosted the Falcons of Clinton-Massie.

The Blue Lions snapped a three-game losing streak with a 48-44 victory.

Washington jumped out to an early 10-point lead. From there Clinton-Massie brought the game to within one point to end the half.

The second half was closely contested with multiple lead changes.

With the game tied, Eli Lynch was fouled on a fast break that put him on the free throw line with a chance to take the lead with four seconds to go in the game.

Lynch hit both free throws and after the second shot, Clinton-Massie committed a foul that put the Lions back on the line for a 1 and 1. Trevor Rarrick hit on both free throws to put the game out of reach.

Trevor Rarrick and Garitt Leisure led all scoring with 15 points each.

Levi Ludwick contributed nine, and Eli Lynch scored five. Both Ryan Schwartz and Miguel O’Flaherty had two points.

On Monday, Jan. 18, the Washington Blue Lion 8th grade team hosted Chillicothe.

Trevor Rarrick’s 11-point first half helped the Blue Lions keep things close going into the locker room only down by seven.

Chillicothe turned up the defensive pressure in the second half forcing the Blue Lions into a lot of turnovers which resulted in a lot of easy transitions baskets, according to coach Ryan Garrison.

The Cavaliers stretched a seven-point lead to a 24-point lead to start the fourth, and the Blue Lions couldn’t catch up.

The leading scorer for the Lions tonight was Trevor Rarrick with 13.

Garitt Leisure and Miguel O’Flaherty each had four. Ryan Schwartz had three, and both Levi Ludwick and Gabe Arazo had two.

On Thursday, Jan. 14, the Washington Blue Lion 8th grade boys basketball team hosted Hillsboro and for the second game in a row came up one point short.

It was a back and forth game up until the fourth period.

With twp minutes left, Hillsboro had a seven-point lead.

The Blue Lions battled back cutting the lead to one. Washington was forced to foul on the inbound pass.

Hillsboro missed the front end of a one-and-one at the free throw line. The Blue Lions rebounded and had enough time to push the ball to half court for a last second shot that missed wide.

Levi Ludwick led the Lions in scoring with 11. Trevor Rarrick had 10.

Both Gabe Arazo and Eli Lynch contributed six, and Garitt Leisure had five.
