Garrison leads Marshall women at Pitt Open

RANKIN, Pa. – Marshall men’s and women’s cross country competed in the first Pitt Panther Opener Friday evening, Aug. 30 at the Carrie Blast Furnace in Rankin, Pennsylvania.

Sophomore Madelyn Garrison placed 10th (14:41.51) to pace the Marshall women.

Freshman Sydney Smith (14:58.16) came in 15th and classmate Julia Muller notched an 18th-place showing (15:03.88). Freshman Abby Herring (33rd, 15:27.16) and sophomore Myah McAlister (41st, 15:44.90) rounded out the scoring for the squad, who posted a team score of 94 points for fourth place.

Freshman Ronnie Saunders led the Thundering Herd with a seventh-place finish in a time of 18:07.78. Senior Daniel Green posted a 14th-place finish (18:34.99), while classmate Alex Minor came in one spot behind in 18:37.96.

Junior Joel Krznaric (24th, 18:46.26) and sophomore Ian Domenick (19:16.32) rounded out the scoring for the Thundering Herd, who finished fourth with 77 points.

The team will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Winthrop Invitational.
