Lady Panther soccer wins opener at Circleville

CIRCLEVILLE — The Miami Trace Lady Panthers varsity soccer team opened the 2019 season with a match at Circleville Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Miami Trace won the non-conference contest, 3-1.

Miami Trace scored first with 18:24 to go in the first half.

Morgan Eggleton had the goal with an assist by Isabella Vanover.

Circleville answered quickly four minutes later with a goal by Nilyn Cockerham. The score remained tied, 1-1 at the half.

In the second half Eggleton scored a second goal with an assist by Magarah Bloom at the 27:53 minute mark.

Eggleton capitalized again for Miami Trace with 11:59 left to earn herself a hat trick.

Miami Trace had 17 shots on goal, while Circleville had 21 shots.

Aubrey Schwartz had 17 saves in goal for the Lady Panthers.

“She did an amazing job in the goal for us, keeping us in the game,” Miami Trace head coach Caitlin Francis said. “We started off very slow tonight but we picked it up in the second half.”

Miami Trace is at Jackson to open Frontier Athletic Conference play Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The Miami Trace Panthers boys varsity soccer team was leading Circleville 2-0 Tuesday when the match was suspended due to lightning with 8:38 remaining in the first half. No word on a make-up date at this time.
