The Washington Blue Lion varsity baseball team hosted the Jets from Franklin Monroe High School Tuesday, May 7.
Washington won the game, 5-1, improving to 5-17 on the season.
R. G. Crabtree started and pitched a complete game for the victory for the Blue Lions. He allowed six hits and one earned run. He struck out nine and walked three.
Blake Sease started for the Jets and pitched four innings with three hits, no runs, one strikeout and two walks.
Caden Goins came on in relief and took the loss for Monroe. He pitched two innings with five hits and five runs (one earned) with no strikeouts and one walk.
The game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the fifth inning.
Brock Morris began the inning with a single to right field.
He stole second and scored on a double to left field by Tyler Tackage.
The Jets tied the game in the top of the sixth and Washington responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning.
With one out, Tyler Rood reached on an error. He advanced to second on a passed ball.
Bailey Roberts singled, with Rood moving to third.
Ryan Schwartz singled, scoring Rood with Roberts going to third.
Eli Shaw walked, loading the bases.
After the second out was recorded, Tackage reached on an error that sent Roberts home.
George Reno singled, scoring Schwartz to make it 5-1.
Crabtree retired the side in order in the top of the seventh.
Washington is at home today at 5 p.m. for senior day against Vinton County.
The Blue Lions are at Cedarville today and home Saturday to take on Logan Elm in the Sectional tournament at 11 a.m.
