LUCASVILLE — The Washington Blue Lions made the trip down into Scioto County Monday to take on the Valley High School Indians in a non-conference varsity baseball game.

The Blue Lions tied the game with a run in the top of the seventh, but fell, 4-3 in eight innings.

Bailey Roberts started for Washington and pitched six innings. He allowed six hits and three runs (one earned), with five strikeouts and three walks.

Ryan Schwartz pitched 1.2 innings, suffering the loss. He allowed one run (unearned) with two hits, one strikeout and one walk.

Wiley pitched eight innings for the win with eight hits and three runs (two earned). He struck out seven and walked four.

Valley got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the first.

Washington responded with a run in the top of the second.

Tyler Rood led off with a walk and stole second.

He advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored when Roberts reached on an error.

The Blue Lions tied the game with a run in the third.

With one out, George Reno walked and stole second. He stole third and Karson Runk walked.

Jarred Hall hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Reno.

Valley took the lead with a run in the fifth.

Washington tied the game with a run in the seventh.

Tyler Tackage led off the inning with a single.

Cortez O’Flaherty came on to run for him.

Reno bunted O’Flaherty to second.

After the second out was recorded, Hall singled to right, scoring O’Flaherty.

The Blue Lion defense turned a double play in the bottom of the seventh to help keep Valley off the board.

Valley had a single, an interference call, a fielder’s choice and an error to score the game-winning run.

Washington is at Eastern Brown Wednesday and home against Adena Thursday and Jackson Friday.

On Saturday, April 27, Washington played Waverly and lost, 9-3. The Blue Lions also lost to Piketon, 1-0. Look for more on these games in a future edition of the Record-Herald.
