MT softball ball downs London, 14-7

LONDON — The Miami Trace Lady Panthers varsity softball team visited former South Central Ohio League rivals London for a single game Saturday, April 6.

Miami Trace remained undefeated with a 14-7 victory.

Maddie Mossbarger started for the Lady Panthers and got the win.

She pitched seven innings with 13 hits, 6 earned runs and two walks.

“Maddie pitched real well for her first win of the year,” Miami Trace head coach Joe Henry said. “We are taking the season one game at a time and the girls are starting to hit the ball all over the field.”

Miami Trace had 17 hits in the game, led by Kaylee Hauck going 3 for 5 with a triple.

Sidney Payton was 3 for 4 with a double and a triple and three rbi.

Mossbarger had three hits and drove in one run.

Olivia Wolffe, Jessica Camp and Ashley Campbell each had two hits, including a home run by Campbell.

Miami Trace scored five in the first, five in the fourth and two each in the sixth and seventh innings.

London countered with one in the fourth, two in the sixth and four in the seventh.

In the first inning, Miami Trace sent nine batters to the plate.

Hauck and Wolffe started with back-to-back triples.

Camp had a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

Campbell then hit a solo home run over the fence in left field.

Payton singled and went to second on an error.

Cassidy Lovett hit a double for a run and Mossbarger drove Lovett home with a single.

In the fourth, Mossbarger singled and Breanna Eick ran for her.

Kylee Rossiter attempted to bunt and ended up at third with Miami Trace taking a 6-0 lead.

Hauck and Camp hit singles and Campbell reached on an error.

Payton followed with a run-scoring double to left.

Down 10-0, London scored one run in the bottom of the fourth.

In the sixth, Campbell singled and Payton tripled.

Aubrey Schwartz drove Payton in with a single to put the score at 12-1.

London avoided the run-rule with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, Wolffe hit a double and Camp drove her in with a triple.

Campbell drove in the 14th run of the game for Miami Trace with a sacrifice fly.

London rallied for four runs in the seventh for the 14-7 final.

Miami Trace improved to 7-0 overall, 3-0 in the Frontier Athletic Conference with a 1-0 victory at Hillsboro Monday. Please see an upcoming edition of the Record-Herald for a report on that game.

Miami Trace will host former SCOL opponent East Clinton Tuesday and defending FAC champions Jackson Wednesday. First pitch is at 5 p.m.
