PORTSMOUTH — The Washington Blue Lion boys basketball team won its fourth consecutive game Saturday, 79-55 over the Waverly Tigers.

The game was played in Portsmouth as part of the Shawnee State tournament.

Washington had three players in double figures, led by senior Max Knisley with 23 points.

Senior Cam Eckles had 18 points and junior Griffin Shaw scored 17 points.

Cade Marquez led the Tigers with 13 points and Jake Henderson was next with 12 points.

“We came out hot early, guarded great and rebounded as a team,” Washington head coach Shannon Bartruff said. “That allowed us to get out and run and we did a great job in transition.”

Washington held a 20-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 45-18 at the half.

“I was concerned about Waverly’s athleticism and pressure, especially after playing a physical McClain team (Friday) night,” Bartruff said. “Our energy was infectious tonight, everyone that played played well.

“I’m really proud of our guys,” Bartruff said. “I hope this shows them how good they can be. We were up as much as 30 in the 4th and then emptied the bench. Max, Cam and Griffin led us tonight in scoring, but we shared the ball great. Probably of the 20 field goals we made we assisted on 12 to 15 of those.”

Washington (now 5-2 overall) returns to SCOL play tonight at home against Hillsboro with the j-v game at 6 p.m.
