The local gymnasts from Greeneview, Miami Trace and Washington High Schools represented their schools while attending the Central District Ohio High School Gymnastic Competition Saturday, Feb. 16.
The Panther gymnasts placed 17th in a field of 24 teams competing at the tournament.
Miami Trace junior Devan Thomas placed 36th out of 92 participants in the all-around competition.
Fellow teammates Maddy Southward and Kandice Mathews also competed on all four Olympic events.
Thomas’ overall performance led her to place in high standing on each of her events: vault, 53rd out of 144; uneven bars, 46th out of 143; balance beam, 42nd out of 149 and floor exercise, 60th out of 147.
Freshman Alyssa Butler placed 38th on vault ahead of Thomas in a field of 143 total competitors.
Junior Maddy Southward placed 63rd on balance beam out of 149 gymnasts. Butler was 84th and Mathews placed 97th.
Mathews earned a new personal high mark on uneven bars to finish her freshman season.
Another freshman, Milana Macioce, also achieved a personal high awarded score on balance beam.
