FCS basketball keeping busy schedule

The Fayette Christian School Crusaders have been busy as the regular season starts to wind down.

The following is a recap of their last few games.

Jan. 29, 2019

At Hillsboro Christian Academy

Varsity boys

FCS 36, Hillsboro 35

The Crusaders scored the last six points of the contest to extend their winning streak to six in a row.

Trailing 35-30, Spencer Hanusik hit a three-pointer with less than one minute remaining. On the next possession, Hillsboro turned the ball over and Nicholas Epifano was fouled. He made one of two free throws to make it 35-34.

It was after his miss on the second free throw attempt that Hillsboro threw the ball down court. Epifano stole the ball and drove in, scoring the winning points with under 20 seconds left in the game.

Epifano finished with 16 points. Lane Hufford had nine, Spencer Hanusik chipped in seven and Zander Ivey had four points.

Varsity girls

FCS 29, Hillsboro 22

Taylor Brown led the Lady Crusaders with 13 points. Grace Sheeter scored eight points, Emily Barker scored four and Letisha Knepp and MaKenna Granger each scored two points.

Junior High boys

FCS 43, Hillsboro 21

The Crusaders Junior High team improved its record to 6-1 with an easy 43-21 victory. They held Hillsboro to just four first half points.

Drew Pontius led the Crusaders with 13 points. Nate Crichton had 12 points, Brady Bumpus and Cade Whitaker both scored eight points and Jake Chricton had two points.

Feb. 1, 2019

Licking Co. Christian Academy

Varsity boys

FCS 44, Licking Co. Christian. 29

The Crusaders outscored LCCA 14-4 in the final period for the win.

Nicholas Epifano led the team with 24 points.

Lane Hufford scored 10, Spencer Hanusik had six points and Zander Ivey scored four.

Junior High boys

FCS 48, Licking Co. Christian 13

The Junior High Crusaders held LCCA scoreless until nine minutes into the game and then again in the 3rd period.

Drew Pontius led FCS with 12 points.

Brady Bumpus and Nate Crichton had 10 points each, Jake Crichton had eight points and Cade Whitaker chipped in seven points. Justin Wines scored one.

Feb. 5, 2019

Hosting Milford Christian

Varsity boys

FCS 50, Milford 26

FCS made it four wins this season over Milford with a 50-26 decision.

Nicholas Epifano led with 19 points and had a double-double with 10 rebounds.

Lane Hufford scored 17 points, Spencer Hanusik had eight, Michael Miller scored four points and Zander Ivey had two.

The Crusaders are now 12-4 overall and have won eight games in a row.

Varsity girls

FCS 37, Milford 26

Taylor Brown led the Lady Crusaders with 19 points. Katelynn Crichton added eight points, Emily Barker scored six and Grace Sheeter and Jenna Sams each scored two points.

The Lady Crusaders are now 5-3 and have won three in a row.

Junior High boys

Milford 31, FCS 25

For the second time this year, the junior Crusaders lost to Milford in regular season play.

Milford outscored FCS 14-10 in the third quarter on their way to a 31-25 win.

Drew Pontius led the team with 11 points, Nate Crichton had eight, Justin Wines scored five points and Brady Bumpus converted a free throw.

With the loss the Crusaders are now 7-2 for the season.
