Hudson High School from the Akron area took first place honors in a ten team invitational gymnastic competition held at Worthington Kilbourne High School Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019.
Hudson won the championship with a 137.275 team score. Miami Trace, scoring a 111.725, completed the meet in 8th place.
Miami Trace freshman Alyssa Butler challenged herself to better finishes on three of her four events. Butler earned a high 8.2 for her handspring vault. Increasing her own best score by a whole point on floor exercise, the freshman earned a 7.515 from the judges. On uneven bars, Butler was awarded a 6.025 to aide her team on the event.
Kandice Mathews, Miami Trace freshman, received two of her own personal high marks: 8.025 on vault and 5.75 on uneven bars.
Another Miami Trace freshman, Alexis Gardner, earned a 7.9 new personal record on vault.
Miami Trace improved their team score on vault to 32.125.
Greeneview sophomore Lizzy Valentine performed two new skills in the meet to boost her routine, increasing her scores.
Valentine combined two front salto’s, (aerial flips), back-to-back in a tumbling pass for a floor exercise score of 8.075. She also threw a round-off one-half onto the vault table with a full twist off the table, receiving a score of 7.85.
Miami Trace has a home meet upcoming on Friday, Jan. 18 against Tri-Valley.
