Stivers tops Panthers, 88-55

DAYTON — The Miami Trace Panthers went on the road Saturday night, Jan. 5, for a non-conference game in Dayton against the Tigers from the Stivers School of the Arts.

The Tigers won the game, 88-55.

Kyler Conn and Austin Brown were the leading scorers for Miami Trace, both with 13 points.

Trevor Barker had nine points, Cody Brightman scored eight, Austin Mathews scored seven and Logan Rodgers added five.

Mathews led Miami Trace in rebounds with five and was tied with Cameron Moore for the team high in assists with three.

Stivers had five players in double figures, led by Williams with 14.

Spear scored 11 points and a trio, Lewis, Rolack and Lattimore, each had 10 points.

Stivers rolled out to a 25-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Panthers had their best offensive output of 19 points in the second quarter. The Tigers held a 46-27 halftime lead.

Stivers won the third quarter, 22-15 to extend their lead to 68-42 after three quarters of play.

Miami Trace shot 44 percent (22 of 49) from the field and 5 of 14 from behind the three-point line for 35 percent.

Stivers made 37 of 60 shot attempts for 61 percent. The Tigers made 7 of 20 three-point shot attempts for 35 percent.

Both teams shot 50 percent from the free throw line (6 of 12 for the Panthers, 7 of 14 for the Tigers).

Stivers grabbed three more rebounds than did Miami Trace (27 to 24).

Stivers had 16 steals and 46 points from their non-starters, as well as 18 points off turnovers.

Miami Trace had 24 turnovers, 13 bench points and four points off turnovers.

Miami Trace (1-11 overall) returns to Frontier Athletic Conference play Friday when they host the Chillicothe Cavaliers in the Panther Pit. The freshman game starts at 4:45 p.m.
